I’m sure most of you have heard of #safetytipsforladies. Buzzfeed recently did a piece on this newly feminist friendly hashtag. This is just one of the many new sarcastic and poignant ways feminists are utilizing social media to their advantage in commentating on patriarchal culture in a fast paced, relatable way. The best part of all this witty tweeting? Right below the surface of these rape culture jokes lays real commentary on the ridiculousness of our society when discussing women’s safety all sprinkled with a healthy dose of trolling.
Well, let me share my favorite feminist friendly Twitter moments, and feel free to have a laugh with me. I even encourage you to take part in all the hashtag wonder. That is, unless you’re a woman trying to balance your schoolwork, beauty, and relationships there’s definitely no time for social media!
Not only am I personally obsessed with other people’s obsession with this hunk of man meat, as just every single woman in the universe is, but I also appreciate this Cosmopolitan magazine commentary. I mean, we all know men would probably secretly read an article about this. But seriously world, some of us are sick of hearing about the “best” beauty tips . . . every day. How does Cosmo even come up with enough adjectives to describe hair in a different way every month?
I don’t really have much to say about this one, except that I giggled for about five minutes and continue to love on it every time I read it. I now find ways to bring it up in conversation so everyone knows about this tweet.
#Ineedmasculism started off as a super misogynistic outcry from men who felt a little “offended” by all this equality talk. (Women’s equality can be super hard!) So, some cool men took it upon themselves and troll it up with sarcastic tweets such as this. I get so incredibly offended when other men tell each other to “women up." It’s just so degrading to each other! But really, this man’s Twitter name makes his point even stronger. Lots of love to him all around.
Yes. When women are running for office I am sick of hearing about their families. Not that I don’t think political kids in their adorable outfits are fabulous. I just would like to hear about you know, her qualifications, her career history, just semi-important stuff like that.
And finally, shout out to Mr. Kendall for summing it all up. The only way we can really ever be safe and succeed in this world, ladies? Just stop being.
