We hate the word feminist

There's something I've been noticing around people our age - maybe it's because I've just returned to school and have to do countless readings on women's studies, gender and the like.
When I heard the most recent Dr. Pepper 10 commercial on the radio for the first time, as it claimed that “counting calories isn’t manly,” I thought to myself “Wow- this has to be the worst. Thank goodness most commercials nowadays are pretty mild; this one is just bluntly sexist!”
Well, besides being a bit shocked that a 7-year-old had already been so affected by the gendering of games (as if the fact that the girls think they can’t wear sneakers unless they’re sparkly or pink isn’t enough) it got me thinking about gendering our speech as adults and how our daily interactions with children can greatly affect the outcome of their perception of gender roles.

I love Angelina Jolie’s coming out about her mastectomy, for so many reasons.
Ahhh yes. It’s summer and we all know what that means: weekly trips to the beach, sandy goodness, beers and, most importantly, awesome jams.
