UF student’s charity suits up on Twitter to raise awareness, uses #HIMYMcharity

For the final season of his favorite show, a UF student is counting on Twitter to reach producers and bring attention to his cause.

David Nassau, a 19-year-old UF marketing sophomore, is using the Twitter hashtag #HIMYMcharity to catch the eye of “How I Met Your Mother” executives for his nonprofit Hopping 4 A Cure.

Nassau started the organization in 2010 on International Suit Up Day, a fictional day based on the popular sitcom.

In high school, Nassau said he and a friend joked they were dressed up in suits for their hopscotch team. The joke became reality when Nassau formed a charity hopscotch event to raise money for multiple sclerosis.

After Nassau’s father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Nassau said he wanted to do something to help.

“The more exposure there is for multiple sclerosis, the more positive things will come from it,” he said.

Hopping 4 A Cure held its first Twitter promotion night last Thursday and will host more leading up to the “How I Met Your Mother” season finale.

Nick Stockhammer, a 20-year-old UF finance sophomore, said there has already been a lot of Twitter activity with the hashtag.

“We hope to maybe get people who only know ‘How I Met Your Mother’ to stumble upon Hopping 4 A Cure,” he said.
