Starving Gator: Ivey's Grill
Starving Gator: Ivey's Grill

I first heard of Ivey’s from my dad, whose coworker told him about this great breakfast place in Gainesville we needed to try. Located on 3303 West University Avenue, it’s close to campus making it a great spot to pick up a meal before or after class.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant as a whole. It’s a very cozy and quiet spot where you could meet up with friends for brunch or could go alone with a good book. Each of the tables has a book on it, for the diner’s enjoyment during the meal.

I ordered the Spuds a la Grande, which consisted of roasted potatoes with sautéed tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, swiss and cheddar cheese, and two eggs cooked any way you liked it, all mixed in on one plate. All together, the flavors blended together extremely well, and it was both delicious and satisfying. The dish was served with a scrumptious biscuit that surprisingly reminded me of Red Lobster’s cheddar biscuits in both texture and taste, except without the cheese. Honestly, as biscuits go, to be compared to Red Lobster’s biscuits is one of the highest compliments I can give.

I also ordered a mocha latte. Be warned: this is not like your typical Starbucks coffee. Because it is espresso, it is much stronger than the lattes they serve at Starbucks. The taste at first was a bit too strong for me, but after a bit, my taste buds adjusted to it and I really enjoyed it. It also helped keep me alert for a test I had to take that day, so I would highly recommend it if you need a pick-me-up. The drink is a bit pricy, but no more pricy than Starbucks– and they give you a lot of coffee.

All in all, I really enjoyed Ivey’s Grill as a whole, and plan to make many more trips there this upcoming school year. Bon appetite!!
