The professional Gator: 21 early days

Do you want to be productive? Do you ever feel like there is so much to do, but not enough hours in a day? I challenge you to complete 21 days of early rising. You will see that all the items on your to-do list are crossed-off with time to spare.

I read a few articles about this challenge last year and decided to complete it to see if the philosophy behind it was valid or not. Essentially, if you wake up early every morning, you will have more time to do work. Makes sense, right? It’s not as easy as it sounds.

The first couple days were perfectly fine. I was excited to wake up and study, but waking up at 5 a.m., became increasingly difficult as the days passed. Of course, I was allowed to sleep in on the weekends, but it became harder and harder to wake up at 5 a.m. on, let’s say, Fridays. I got the hang of it around 13 days in; but trust me, waking up early is worth it. Here is why:

1. Great start! Instead of getting up five minutes before your class starts and have to struggle to find all of your supplies, rise early. This will allow you to organize all of your school supplies, so you can just grab your backpack and go.

2. No distractions. Since you’ll be waking up earlier than everyone else, you won’t have any distractions. Your phone won’t be buzzing every other second, and there won’t be as much activity on Facebook for you to follow.

3. Breakfast: Many people skip breakfast because they don’t have enough time to make or eat it. But waking up early will give you time to eat and time to make something deliciously healthy for yourself.

4. Exercise: Sometimes I barely have time to exercise. From classes in the morning, to meetings in the afternoon, to more meetings in the evening, I am exhausted when I come. Exercising in the morning releases endorphins, making you feel happier and more energetic for your day ahead.

5. Lastly, you will be so productive. You will have a few extra hours to study or respond to emails, read news articles and organize yourself.

I challenge you to wake up at 5 a.m. every weekday for 21 days. See your productivity levels skyrocket!
