Most of us want to improve our lives, correct? We want to learn the magical formula that will make us into better human beings: lighter, brighter, happier.

Positive psychology and self-improvement are two topics that interest millions of individuals in our generation. Hundreds of lifestyle books, seminars and inspirational people claim the secret formula to living a happier life is reflecting every single day. Without any type of reflection, how would you know what you need to improve?

Of course, most of us aren’t always in a perfect state of mind. With all the distractions we have in today’s society, I don’t blame you for losing focus. However, consistent reflection will maintain your focus and allow you to live happier.

We have the ability to train our minds. Ever heard the saying “practice makes perfect”? Your perspective definitely won’t change overnight, but you’ll see improvements in your happiness as soon as a week into this new habit of reflection.

The Secret Formula in 3 Steps

1. When you wake up: Thing of something you're grateful for. This can be anything at all.

2. Next, think of something exciting that will happen today. Do you have a date to go on or a TV show to watch?

3. Lastly, think of something you want to achieve. For example, you can say, “I want to be productive today.”

4. Before you go to bed: Think of 3 great things that happened today. How could you have made today better? Critique yourself, and you’ll see improvements in those areas indefinitely.

Adopt this “attitude of gratitude,” and rewrite your mind. After daily practice, your mind will start to focus on positive things. Remember: You choose the life you want to live.
