I’ve been hearing a lot about Zoe’s Kitchen and that people have overall positive reviews about it. A lot of my friends have been asking about it, so I tried it for the first time when my parents visited for UF’s Homecoming last weekend.

Zoe’s Kitchen is a small chain restaurant that came to Gainesville last spring. Much like Panera Bread, Zoe’s environment is a cross between a small café and a fast food counter service. It would be a good place to meet with a friend or to study.

The cuisine mainly focuses on Mediterranean-style cuisine, with homemade hummus and meat and vegetable kabobs. I ordered a bowl of chicken and orzo soup as well as a steak stack sandwich.

In my opinion, the soup was a bit expensive for chicken soup with orzo in it. However, I must say it was much better than anything I could get in a can. I would definitely recommend giving the soup a try. Plus, it really helped alleviate my cold symptoms.

The soup was good, but the steak stack sandwich was fantastic. I would highly recommend it. Containing steak slices, Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, caramelized onions, melted mozzarella and a feta spread between two slices of sourdough bread with rosemary oil on it, this sandwich was absolutely delicious and worth every penny. The mixture of vegetables with the cheese, spread, and steak created a hearty, flavorful culinary experience. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again.

I also ordered a side of the pasta salad that had fresh basil and feta in place of mayonnaise. It was good, but I wasn’t too impressed. My dad tried the cooked vegetables, though, and he swore by those.

I was impressed with Zoe’s Kitchen, as a whole. I wouldn’t say it was one of my top spots to eat here in Gainesville, but the service, the environment, and the food made it a nice place to grab a quick bite or to have a nice lunch with friends.
