Swamp of love: Why it's OK to be wanted

As I walked on campus to my friend’s house in my Halloween costume last week, I couldn’t contain my excitement. This was the first year I chose to go out with friends on Halloween in Gainesville, and I knew it was going to be a lot of fun.

My friend next to me couldn’t stop going on about my hair and makeup, and how I looked so different but so good. It made me wonder why I didn’t try this much on a normal basis. I reverted back to what I’ve been hearing consistently for the past two years since I entered college: You shouldn’t dress to impress a man, and you should never buy clothes to make someone look at you.

For a while, I really stood by this. I would curl my hair meticulously before class knowing I felt better when I was put together, but I've questioned this now I’ve matured and have started to be comfortable with who I am.

It’s human nature to want and to have the desire to be wanted, and that’s OK. It doesn’t make you any less of a woman because you choose to wear a little more makeup in hopes of someone special noticing. In the same way it doesn’t make you any less of a woman if you choose to look the way you do for only yourself.

The important thing is to be who you want to be and to respect others for choosing who they want to be, too!
