Almost 300 students made their ways to the UF Reitz Union Grand Ballroom for day two of qualifying and slating.
Monday’s qualifying and slating drew 275 students, said UF Supervisor of Elections Hans Rojas.
Rojas said more students qualified and slated on Monday than previous semesters, although as of press time, Roajs couldn’t provide last Spring’s numbers.
“We did have a huge increase of people today in general,” he said.
Rojas said 222 students slated with Swamp Party and 49 with Access Party. Four of the 275 did not choose to slate with either party.
A total of 312 students have qualified since Sunday.
Today is the last day to qualify and slate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Uyen Vu, 18, said the slating process went well despite her nerves. Vu slated with Swamp Party for a sophomore seat because she felt the party would represent her queer and Asian-American identity.
“I wanted to be involved with a party that best represented and best fought for the community I identify with and care about,” the UF health science sophomore said.
Brandon Stillword, 20, said he wanted to get more involved with SG after returning from the Marine Corps.
Stillword slated with Access Party because he wanted to support friends involved with the party, the UF chemical engineering junior said.
“It’s a good opportunity to get involved,” he said.
