Finding your way around campus just got easier thanks to a new app on campus.

Earlier this month, UF was added to the FindMyClass mobile app, a GPS navigation app, which allows users to choose a building on campus as their destination.

Once selected, the app will draw a line from the user’s current location to the end point.

The app also features turn-by-turn driving directions and campus dining locations.

FindMyClass was created by Michael Schmidt in 2011 when he was a student at the University of South Florida.

“My brother and I were always lost on campus,” Schmidt said. “Even in my senior year, I would get lost and end up wandering around campus.”

After taking several app-building classes, he and his brother entered and won a Microsoft-sponsored app development contest with their idea to help fellow students navigate the USF campus.

FindMyClass now includes 30 college campuses nationwide.

It is available for a free trial download on both Apple and Android mobile devices.

There is an option to purchase three more searches for 99 cents or unlimited searches for $1.99.

When Lulu Melhem transferred to UF from Miami Dade College, she said she would’ve found a campus GPS app helpful.

After recently downloading the app, Melhem, a 20-year-old UF criminology senior, said she can see freshmen and transfer students getting use out of it.

“It’s really good,” Melhem said. “It moves along with you.”
