UF’s School of Theatre and Dance is hosting its last theatre production of the semester with Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors.”
The show is set to debut Friday and run through April 12 at the Nadine M. McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion. This slapstick comedy tells the story of two sets of twins and their mother and father being separated from one another by a terrible storm. It explores love, rivalry and finding one’s identity, director Judith Williams said.
“It’s great fun — a lot of mistaken identities,” she said. “Everyone comes in at the wrong time.”
Marissa Secades, an 18-year-old UF theatre student, said she’s excited to watch her friends in the show.
“I have some friends in the production, so it’s going to be really exciting to see them transform into a completely different person on stage,” she said.
Hope Golds, a 19-year-old UF theatre student, will play the courtesan in the show and said she is looking forward to playing a seductive character.
“I haven’t played this type of character before, but because of the actors that I am working with makes it easier to play her because they are so full of life,” she said.
Along with Golds, fellow actor 24-year-old UF theatre graduate student Jacob Lesh will play Antipholus of Syracuse, and he said he recommends everyone to come out and see the show.
“There’s not a show like it,” Lesh said. “It’s sexy, smart and witty.”
The show is open to the public. Tickets are $13 for UF students, faculty, and staff, as well as senior citizens, and $17 for the general public. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or at the University Box Office (Gate 1) at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
