In the “2016 U.S. News and World Report,” UF ranked 47th nationally among public and private universities, which is one ranking above last year’s. Three other universities tied with UF.
Other Florida universities were also ranked nationally: the University of Miami (51), Florida State University (96), the University of South Florida (156), Florida Institute of Technology (161) and the University of Central Florida (168).
“The new ‘U.S. News’ rankings are very encouraging for future development in the Gator Nation,” said Student Body President Joselin Padron-Rasines.
UF ranked 14th in the top 30 national public universities, 13th out of 142 colleges and universities for best online-degree programs and 29th out of 156 colleges and universities for best undergraduate business program. The university also ranked 18th out of 21 in the report’s first ranking of the most innovative schools.
The report evaluated schools mainly on school officials’ statements, graduation and retention rates and faculty resources, according to its website.
UF President Kent Fuchs said he expects UF to move up in ranking.
“Our aspirations are to consistently be in the top 10 of public universities,” Fuchs said. “It’s a matter of time.”
