The debate centered around whether Infinity Hall should have its own senator or be a part of District A.

The decision to either give students living in Infinity Hall a UF student senator or group them in District A was a heated topic at Tuesday night’s UF Student Senate meeting.

Connor Corzine, a residence assistant for Infinity, asked Student Government to reconsider having Infinity be represented as part of District A. Corzine had served as a replacement UF freshman senator during Spring 2015.

Districts are based on ZIP codes, where District A is 32601 and Infinity Hall’s is 32601 but because the mail goes through UF, the mailing address is 32612.

The resolution went to its second reading at Tuesday’s meeting.

Corzine, 19, said both of his bosses, Hannah Black and Ryan Winget, were upset about potentially being placed in District A.

"Both want representation in this body," the UF political science sophomore said.

Infinity residents should be represented with their own seat, Corzine said.

"I’m representing them right now," he said. "That’s not my job, that’s your jobs."

Charlie Brown Jr. (Swamp, Agriculture) said Infinity should be represented as part of District A.

"I think they’ll be able to represent the constituency very well," he said.

Sen. Preston Jones (Access, Hume) spoke in opposition of the resolution, saying Infinity should have its own senator.

He said SG needs to ask students living in Infinity what they want because there are a lot of shades of gray regarding the issue.

"No one’s listening to them," he said. "No one’s asked them."

Since the bill has gone through two readings, it will now be directed to Student Body President Joeslin Padron-Rasines.
