Dream Quilt Production Company will be hosting the Zombieville Variety Show and Film Fest at the Atlantic this Saturday. The show will feature many different performers, films and even a training session for those who want to prepare for the zombie apocalypse.

“It’s been in the works for a while,” said Rachel Wayne, the managing director of Dream Quilt.

“The idea is, it’s critical in these troubled times to be prepared for anything, including the zombie apocalypse we have all been warned of.”

Classic zombie films will be shown at the event such as “Night of The Living Dead” and “White Zombie,” which will teach viewers about the history of zombies and their relation to our world.

After the zombie films, which will include some local indie zombie shorts, survival skills will be taught. One of these skills includes teaching people how to create zombie makeup to help them blend in during the apocalypse.

If the preparation doesn’t come in handy to would-be survivors, then there is no need to worry.

“We’ll have zombie variety performers on hand to entertain us in case we don’t make it out of the Atlantic,” Wayne, 30, said.

The variety performers will include undead burlesquers, musicians, puppeteers and performance artists. Some performers will even be taking on the roles of popular characters in the zombie universe, such as Michonne from “The Walking Dead” and Ash Williams from “The Evil Dead.” A zombie band led by Ruby Rapture will also be featured.

As for what to expect for the theme, Wayne said, “There will be blood.” The Atlantic will also be modified as needed for the survival training.

A wide range of people usually attend Dream Quilt Production Company events for their alternative entertainment. Wayne said anyone who is interested in weird stories would greatly enjoy the show. As for the actual performers, she said, “We work hard to give local artists and performers an economic opportunity.”

This show is coming at a time where there is much fear of war and terrorism around the world. Wayne said zombies are so popular because, “There is a fear that is very palpable that we could lose our identities or humanity.”

All in all, the show will be benefiting anyone who wants to be prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

“This is the first show of this format to be done in Gainesville,” Wayne said. “We’re very happy to have this immersive experience.”

Tickets are $10 to view the entire show. To attend only the Film Fest it costs $6; the same applies for the variety show. The Atlantic is located on 15 N. Main St.
