UF’s New Engineering Building was evacuated Wednesday morning after a handwritten bomb threat was found in the first floor women’s bathroom.
The note was reported at 9:46 a.m., and University Police arrived at the building on Center Drive two minutes later, said UPD Captain Jeff Holcomb. No evidence of a bomb has been found, as of press time.
The building was evacuated and will remain closed until at least 3 p.m. Classes held in the building are canceled today.
Classes held in adjacent buildings, including Larsen Hall and Benton Hall, will continue, he said. UPD set up a perimeter, blocking traffic on Center Drive. At about 11 a.m., K-9 units were getting ready to sweep the building for evidence of a bomb.
“We're just getting our canines to the building,” Holcomb said. “We’ll be going in shortly.”
