On Friday, the Gainesville resident and music teacher will per- form The Nobel Concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Thomas Center, located at 302 NE Sixth Ave., for the first time in Gainesville. Through music and narration, Swedien will describe the events and festivities of the Nobel ceremonies, where six individuals are recognized for their academic work.

Swedien, 64, created the con- cert after the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, India, asked her to create a program in 2001 for the ceremony’s 100th anniversary, she said. She has been performing the concert around the U.S. ever since.

“I think it benefits UF and the whole community because most of us don’t get to go to the Nobel Awards,” Swedien said.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Russell Etling, the cultural affairs manager for Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, said the show is part of the city’s cultural co-sponsorship program.

He said the program lets culutral organizations use the Thomas Center at a reduced price to host events for the community.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the extraordinary talent that this community has,” he said.
