'Sisters' follows the lives of three women whose lives cross at the junction of family and fate.

Imagine you’re in your 30s, going through your daily routine and out of nowhere your father tells you that you could potentially have multiple other half siblings.

This shocking tale is a reality for Julia Bechly, the daughter of Julius Bechly, a pioneer in fertility treatment in Netflix’s new series, “Sisters.”

The Netflix drama follows the lives of three women who have all hit a roadblock or plateau in their lives, then news breaks that famous fertility clinic doctor Bechly inseminated multiple clients with his own sperm.

Now these women, and many other strangers throughout Australia, face the possibility of going from being the only child in their families to having multiple half siblings.

When the show begins, viewers are introduced to Bechly, an elderly, male, IVF pioneer, who is taken care of by his homely, albeit considerate, only child, Julia (Maria Angelico), who struggles with dating. During the first episode, in fact, Julia meets an online date at a club and hooks up with him in the public restroom because of her longing for connection.

We are then introduced to Edie Flanagan (Antonia Prebble), a straight-laced attorney who is in couples therapy with her husband, Tim. Interestingly enough, as we move through the season, we learn that Tim used to date Julia. On top of that, she and Edie were once childhood friends who have now grown apart.

On the other side of the spectrum, there’s bubbly, effervescent Roxy (Lucy Durack). Roxy is the adopted daughter of two loving, yet controlling, parents who are very invested in her career as an actress on a family show.

What makes the story so compelling is the fact that all of these women are try to convince people in their lives that they are secure and together, but in reality, they are all broken and in need of people to lean on.

While all of the characters are problematic in their own right, the theme of family is constantly threaded into the series as what we as humans need to be happy and mentally healthy.

Throughout the series, they all struggle with depending on one another as they are used to being extremely guarded individuals. However, they are now connected in a unique way.

As they navigate their already complicated lives, they deal with the uphill battle of trying to figure out who the rest of their siblings are and how to integrate their lives without being invasive or standoffish.
