UF students might not be so blasé, blasé about this year’s Gator Growl opening act.

Event organizers announced that Tyrone William Griffin, Jr., better known as Ty Dolla $ign, will perform at Flavet Field for this year’s UF homecoming pep rally Nov. 2. The rapper, songwriter and producer will open for the headliner Walk the Moon.

Gator Growl Producer Will Engle declined to comment on how much the artist is being paid.

Potential Gator Growl goers can purchase tickets at Turlington Plaza, the University Box Office or on Ticketmaster, Engle said. Students can use the discount code sent to their emails to buy general admission tickets for $15 or pit access for $30. Non-UF students can pay $25 for general admission or $50 for pit passes.

Ty Dolla $ign is known for his music and features in songs of other popular artists, Engle said.

“I love every song he’s put out and written,” Engle said. “He has the perfect energy for our show.”

Some of the performers songs include “Blasé” and “Clout.” He was also recently featured in Post Malone’s song “Psycho.”

Ty Dolla $ign’s performance will be the best part of homecoming for Saron Belay, a 19-year-old UF exploratory freshman. She was not very excited about Walk the Moon because she prefers rap music.

While Ty Dolla $ign makes a frequent appearance on her playlists, she wishes UF could have scored a more prominent rapper, she said.

“Why can’t they get Drake?” Belay said.
