Florida lacrosse earns four AAC awards for week six

Back-to-back conference wins help the Gators assert their dominance

Florida picked up four AAC awards in week six after back-to-back conference wins.

The No. 12 Gators swept the Temple Owls on their home turf in Philadelphia March 19 and 21.

The two games differed vastly as Temple only trailed by three in the first half Friday afternoon. However, the Owls weren’t a match for the all-around gritty Gators, who emerged victorious.

Shannon Kavanagh, the AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year, tabbed another run as Midfielder of the Week for the second time this season.

In Friday’s matchup, the captain boasted five assertive goals and two assists. The Smithtown, New York, native caused a career-high three turnovers and a season-high three assists over the weekend.

The senior’s 34-game goal streak is the second-longest streak in the program’s 12-year history.

Cara Trombetta, an AAC Preseason Co-Defender of the Year, earned her second Defender of the Week honor this year. The fifth-year senior tallied 12 ground balls, two draw controls and caused five turnovers in the back-to-back games. Trombetta recorded six ground balls per game which set a new career-high.

The Holbrook, New York, native held Temple’s leading point-scorer, attacker Meghan Hoffman, to one assist.

Sarah Reznick, the AAC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, earned the Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. Reznick made 21 game-deciding saves against the Owls, with 11 during Friday's game. The redshirt freshman totaled 115:28 in the cage and allowed only 14 goals.

The Long Beach, New York, native allowed only six goals Sunday, her second-lowest total of the season. The goalkeeper recorded a career-high four ground balls to complement 10 saves.

Attacker Grace Haus earned a spot on Honor Roll for the third time in her career. The senior posted two hat tricks versus Temple last weekend. She completed Sunday’s game with three goals, two assists and tied her career-high of one draw control.

The Baltimore, Maryland, native became the 13th Gator in program history to record 100 career goals with 105.
