Archer neighborhood block party shooting leads to woman’s hospitalization

The shooting occurred Saturday near Maddox Field

A woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting at a block party in an Archer neighborhood Saturday.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the victim with a gunshot wound in the leg in the Holly Hills area —  at Southwest 169th Drive and Southwest 170th Street, near the intersection of Archer Road and U.S. Highway 41 — at about 1:20 a.m., according to an ACSO incident report. They provided aid until EMS took her to the hospital via ambulance, ACSO spokesperson Art Forgey said. It is unclear if she is still in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.

Law enforcement responded to a shooting, characterized as an aggravated battery, after a noise complaint from a resident about the party.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning.

ACSO deputies responded to a shooting near Champions Park, where a man died from gunshot wounds June 16. Another shooting in a Southwest Archer neighborhood killed a 16-year-old girl June 5.

ACSO asks anyone who has information about the shooting to contact 352-955-1818. For anonymity, contact Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867.
