Florida starting quarterback DJ Lagway is dealing with a lower-body injury as Florida heads into its fall training camp, sources told The Alligator.

The sophomore quarterback is dealing with a lower-body injury that’s required him to wear a walking boot. The severity and timeline of recovery are unknown at this time.

Florida’s star quarterback has dealt with a number of injuries during his time in Gainesville so far.

In his freshman year, Lagway suffered a left hamstring injury against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs that kept him out of the following contest against the No. 5 Texas Longhorns.

During Florida’s spring training camp, Lagway saw limited action due to a shoulder injury. He also failed to participate in the Gators’ Orange and Blue scrimmage.

However, during SEC Media Days on July 16, the Willis, Texas, product touted he’s ready heading into the fall and is moving on from his past ailments.

“I’m feeling great,” Lagway said. “Just trying to get back to throwing the ball. I’ve been working on mechanics that’s going to help my accuracy this year, help my decision making. It’s been great.”

Lagway was crucial to Florida’s late success during the 2024 season.

The sophomore made his first start against Samford after former senior quarterback Graham Mertz suffered a concussion in the previous game against No. 19 Miami. In his first start, Lagway threw for 456 yards, the most a true freshman’s thrown in program history, and three touchdowns.

After Mertz suffered an ACL injury against No. 8 Tennessee that ended his season, Lagway stepped in and nearly led the Gators to an upset victory against the Volunteers, losing 23-17 in overtime.

Since the loss in Knoxville, Lagway won each of the games he started and finished in, which included ranked wins over No. 21 LSU and No. 9 Ole Miss at home, and a 33-8 victory over Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl, where he threw for over 300 yards and was crowned game MVP.

Overall, Lagway finished his first year at Florida with 12 passing touchdowns, 2,016 scrimmage yards and ESPN Freshman All-American honors.
