The No. 3 Florida Gators gymnastics team has roped together an impressive stretch of play heading into the Tempe Regional in Arizona.
The Gators ended the regular season hot, winning their last six meets, including a victory against No. 2 Louisiana State. They carried that momentum into the SEC Championships, taking down three top-five teams en route to securing the program’s 13th conference title.
Florida enters postseason play as the highest seed in the Tempe Regional, and the third overall seed in the NCAA Championships behind the Tigers and No. 1 Oklahoma.
With this streak in mind, here is how Florida’s play heading into postseason action stands next to past national champions since 2020.
2025 Oklahoma
Last year’s Sooners squad that hoisted the trophy ended the regular season with five wins in a row. Their streak began with a win at home against Florida, and the team followed up with wins over North Carolina, Auburn, Michigan and Georgia before heading into the conference championships.
Oklahoma’s win over No. 9 Georgia, led by a season-high performance on vault, was the team’s biggest highlight of the streak, as it clinched a share of the regular-season SEC title.
The Sooners performed valiantly in the conference tournament, rallying back from third place to end the SEC Championships as the runner-up behind LSU by a score differential of .275.
2024 LSU
Similar to the 2025 Oklahoma squad, the 2024 LSU Tigers went on a five-meet win streak to end the regular season. Following a loss to No. 5 Florida in Gainesville, the Tigers won the final five games that included wins over No. 9 Alabama and No. 14 Auburn.
LSU closed regular-season play with a dominant victory over UNC in Baton Rouge, highlighted by two titles on bars and vault from Haleigh Bryant.
The Tigers took that momentum right into the conference tournament, sweeping through the SEC Championships with wins over three top ten teams to claim the program’s fifth conference title, led by the team’s second-highest beam score in its history.
2023 Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s second of its back-to-back championship did not earn a winning streak prior to its conference championship. In the second-to-last meet of the regular season, the Sooners fell to No. 2 Michigan in what was the team’s second-straight top-five matchup after they beat Florida just days before.
But Oklahoma bounced back, dominating No. 14 Arizona State on senior night while sweeping the individual standings on all four events and the all-around.
The Sooners ran through the Big 12 Championships, culminating in a program-record score in beam behind senior Ragan Smith’s perfect 10 to win its 14th conference title in the team’s history.
2022 Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s second and final loss of the 2022 season came against none other than No. 3 Florida in Gainesville, as the Gators refused to let go of their lead after a strong second frame.
But that loss proved to be the wakeup call for the Sooners, as they won the last five meets of the regular season to gain momentum into the Big 12 playoffs.
As usual, Oklahoma dominated the field. Under head coach K.J. Hindler, the team took down Denver, Iowa State and West Virginia as the Sooners dropped the highest championship score in conference history for another title.
2021 Michigan
Michigan had an odd stretch in the regular season of their championship run, as the schedule was dominated by cancellations and postponed matches.
Nonetheless, the Wolverines finished off the regular season strong after coming in second at the Big Five Meet, as they finished first in the Ohio State Quad and dominated Maryland with a program-best 198.100 score.
But Michigan did not capture the Big 10 title, as it fell short just behind Minnesota, which claimed its sixth-ever conference championship.
Similar to some of these teams, Florida has gained tremendous traction in its hopes of claiming its fourth NCAA title.
The Gators will be in action for the Tempe Regional against Arizona State/Arizona, Penn State and California from April 2-5 in Tempe, Arizona.
