Gator fans, young and old, two-legged and four, lined up along West University Avenue to watch the Homecoming Parade on Friday. It was only one of the events for UF’s 2014 Homecoming. That night, thousands of students and alumni flooded Flavet Field to attend Gator Growl, which featured comedy by Brooks Wheelan and music by Foster the People and Ludacris.
The Gators dropped their first game of the season, losing 42-21 to the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Prior to Florida's Southeastern Conference opener against Kentucky, SEC Nation — the SEC Network's equivalent of ESPN's College Gameday — aired on UF's Plaza of the Americas on Saturday from 10 a.m until noon.
The No. 10 Gators volleyball team swept Georgia Southern (25-19, 25-11, 25-15) and Idaho (26-24, 25-15, 25-13) on Friday in the O'Connell Center.
No. 8 Florida took a 3-0 victory in its first game of the season on Friday at James G. Pressly Stadium.
