Lowell Thomas and his mother, Malika, celebrate Lowell’s 11th birthday Oct. 30 in the Congenital Heart Center at UF Health Shands Hospital. Lowell, a native of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, was diagnosed with a fatal heart condition in August while he and Mallika were on vacation in Jacksonville.
