UF's Student Government Productions' chairman was fired Monday.

SG Press Secretary Kim Cruts said Matt Ochs was removed from his position because of "insufficient communication" and consistently tardy deliveries of financial documents.

He was in charge of funding requests from student organizations, she said.

It's important for organizations to receive funding in time to pay for their events, Cruts said. Otherwise, they would pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursements from SG, she said.

"That's just not our standard operating procedure," Cruts said. "And with such a large organization, they really need to stay within bounds."

Cruts said the late requests made it difficult to keep financial records organized.

"It wasn't beneficial to us or to him for that to be happening," she said.

Cruts said Ochs was asked to resign a couple of weeks ago, but he refused to do so.

SG is accepting applications to fill the position, which are available on the SG Web site - www.sg.ufl.edu - or in its office on the third floor of the Reitz Union.
