UF students will be able to borrow professional clothes this semester.

The Gator Career Closet could open as early as March, said Student Body Treasurer Nicholas Carre. It will most likely be located on the second floor of Peabody Hall and will allow students to borrow professional clothes, such as ties and suits for job interviews.

To get clothes, the closet will soon be starting clothing drives, he said. Students can donate professional clothing they no longer use or need. A location to collect clothes has not yet been set up.

The timeline of the closet is still in the process, he said, but student organizations have already been reaching out to offer help in donating clothes.

The professional clothing closet will work with the Career Resource Center and students who work for UF, he said. They will be trained to help students put together a professional outfit.

“A lot of the other schools in the SEC already do this,” he said. “It’s a great resource if we can make it happen.”

Elena Smith, a UF health science sophomore, said she thought the Gator Career Closet was a great idea.

“I think it’s hard for college students to go out to the mall and find professional clothes,” the 19-year-old said. “I would definitely donate clothes that don’t fit me.”
