Halfway through the third quarter of Saturday’s match in Macon, Georgia, Florida lacrosse junior attacker Gianna Monaco had the ball in her stick just behind the goal. A defender was on her tight — which was not surprising, since she had already found the back of the net four times in the first half. She spun left, trying to find any space. Then, another defender picked her up.

Media outlets can't stop raving about the SEC’s dominance in men’s basketball this year. The conference is preparing to send a record of anywhere between 11 and 13 teams to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. That’s impressive, but not the most jarring feat the conference achieved this week. That would come on the softball diamond.

Holding back a wide array of emotions as she stepped towards the floor, Florida senior Leanne Wong had the Stephen C. O’Connell Center watching her every move with intense eyes. The “Sunshine Showdown” is always competitive and brings out the emotions, no matter what surface it's played on. Florida first took the rivalry matchup over Florida State on the hardwood on Nov. 15, then won on the gridiron on Nov. 30. On Tuesday, UF completed this year’s three-sport trifecta, as it dominated the Seminoles on the diamond.
