In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the first Hispanic to give a keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention spoke on campus Tuesday night about his career as a politician.
We’re only a few days away from fall. I know some of you may be very sad to see summer leaving but I think we’ve been way over due for some cooler weather. It’s that time of year when not only will the leaves start changing but so will clothes in preparation of lower temperatures. These are four trends to keep in mind next time you head out shopping to stay fashion forward this season.

Hispanic Heritage Month began Sunday with a landmark. For the first time, a greater share of Hispanic high school graduates are enrolled in college than that of white graduates, according to the Pew Research Center.
Thanks to its long connection to famed linguist and author Noam Chomsky, a renowned speaker to worldwide audiences, the Civic Media Center was able to give UF’s ACCENT Speaker’s Bureau a chance to present professor Chomsky on the UF campus this Fall. In 2003, with ACCENT co-sponsorship, Chomsky spoke at the O’Connell Center to 6,000 people.

The kids who flocked to see the midnight premieres of the Harry Potter movies wearing striped scarves, fake glasses and lightning bolts drawn on their foreheads with their mom’s eyebrow pencils are all grown up.
Every once in a while a restaurant sneaks up on me and provides quality food when I least expect it. I like to call them “sneaky good” spots. Outback Steakhouse is one of the biggest chains in America. Their commercials with the corny Australian accents and down-underism’s have until this point, kept me from eating at their establishment. It appears I was missing out, because Outback’s food is actually way better than I expected.
A UF environmental horticulture professor has developed an orange plant for the Gator Nation.
What’s better than a hot guy with an Australian accent? A gorgeous, Australian musician, of course.
Dragonfly Sushi & Sake Company in the downtown Gainesville area offers diners a modern take on Japanese cuisine. I arrived Saturday at 9 p.m. Even at this hour, there was a line out the door, and the expected wait time for a table for two was 30 minutes. Dragonfly offers large cushioned seating and a few chairs for waiting outside — although dirty and sticky due to humidity and exposure to the Florida elements.
I don’t consider myself a huge partier or even a big drinker, but I’ve definitely made some memories that will make me shutter, smile and think I must have been the most stupid person in college when I look back on college years from now. They’re definitely not the moments I text my parents about, share with my grandparents and aunts when they ask how school is; they’re more just for me and my awesome friends who took care of me.
UF’s Student Senate initially OK’d the 2014-2015 Activity and Service Fee Budget on Tuesday — and it’s about $1.2 million less than this year’s.
We’ll cut to the chase this week.
I have an obsession with accents. French, British, southern, German, Australian. I don’t care what the accent is...I love it. Hearing different accents is honestly one of my favorite parts of traveling. So in honor of my obsession, I would like to share YouTube videos with you of the cutest accents.
So I didn’t actually do much eating at The Swamp Restaurant the day I sat with actresses Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin to talk about their roles in the upcoming comedy, “The Heat.” In fact, neither did they: They seemed displeased with the nachos.
In the musical oasis “Avenue Q,” audience members step into a world reminiscent of their childhood days of watching “Sesame Street.” However, this is not a show for children.
For me, the 2012 Olympics were the best I’d seen in my life, not because the opening ceremony was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, the queen made her grand entrance via parachute, and it was totally awesome, Ryan Lochte broke world records or even because the athletes were looking particularly fine. Nope, it was because the Spice Girls sang (insert British accent) “Wannabe” at the closing ceremony.
