With the rain Gainesville has experienced this past week, mosquitoes will begin populating the area — especially if residents don’t follow the recommended procedures.

UF grad likely first Kuwaiti woman to pass D.C. bar

A UF graduate became possibly the first woman from Kuwait to pass the February 2018 Washington, D.C., Bar Exam. Accurate records aren’t kept of nationalities of those who pass. But according to James Klausner, a UF engineering professor, a lack of Kuwaiti women in the field makes it a strong possibility she’s the first.

Man charged with DUI

Florida Highway Patrol arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly collided with another car while driving under the influence with a dog in the car.Jeffery Holland, 58, was driving a gold-colored Saturn when the incident occurred on State Road 26 and NE 47th Street, according to the arrest report. At about 12:15 p.m., the front of the Saturn collided with the rear end of a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Man accused of stealing UF student's scooter

A student from Gainesville was charged early Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing a scooter.According to the Gainesville Police Department report, it was around 1:45 a.m. when a Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red scooter. Jalen Kelsey-Patterson reportedly fled from the ASO deputy on the scooter.Kelsey-Patterson, 23, fled to Woodland Park Apartments, located on SE 20th Place, where he allegedly abandoned the scooter and continued on foot. Kelsey-Patterson was the only one on the scooter, according to the arrest report.
