In regards to 'Painted guns resembling toys pose threat to officers'

On Thursday, Feb. 8, we ran an article based on a report from the Gainesville Police Department about guns painted to look like toys. GPD provided us with a photo, which we ran in the paper and online. As far as we knew, the entire issue was about disguising guns in order to confuse law enforcement.

State keeps mermaids afloat

At the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and State Road 50, about an hour northwest of Tampa, a street marked by a paint-chipped sign with a peeling picture of a mermaid runs straight into the year 1947.

UPD cleans up Taser policy

The University Police Department has updated its Taser-use policy to make it more clear. Still, the Tasering of UF student Andrew Meyer would have been appropriate under the updated policy, a UPD official said Monday.
