The Gators men’s golf team entered Tuesday leading the field in Jacksonville at the Sea Best Invitational. It finished the day in third place, shooting 9-over par in the final round and stumbling to finish 8-over for the tournament.
The No. 3 Gators women’s golf team labored through a two-hour weather delay in Palos Verdes, California, where its 2019 spring season began at the Northrop Gumman Regional Challenge.

Everything seemed locked into place ahead of the final round at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The Gators were slotted into 10th place out of 15 teams; it looked like they would need their very best to overcome a six-stroke deficit over Illinois, and it would take another bad round for UCF to make up eight strokes to pass UF.

Both UF golf teams enjoyed solid final rounds in their respective tournaments on Tuesday as the end of fall season draws nearer.
Opening days for fall tournaments have been a mixed bag for the Gators. A miserable first day at the Carpet Capital Collegiate set the tone for a disappointing 13th-place finish. John Axelsen’s 64 on the opening round at last week’s Trinity Forest Invitational sparked a fourth-place finish for both Axelsen and the Gators.
The Gators weren’t satisfied. They came into the final day of the Trinity Forest Invitational trailing five other squads. But Florida’s performance Tuesday perhaps gave the team something to build off of as it climbed up the leaderboard to finish fourth.
The Gators knew one thing heading into the Trinity Forest Invitational after a disappointing 13th-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate: they had to be better. They also knew that this was a tournament that last year’s team had won by 10 strokes.
UF’s women’s golf team wrapped up its weekend at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Michigan, with a third-place finish.
The UF women’s golf team continued its impressive play on Monday, capping off a two-day performance at the Cougar Classic that saw the team score a 30-under, 546 overall.
The women’s team was ranked 12th in the nation, and junior Sierra Brooks was named a Golfweek Preseason Second-Team All-American heading into the first tournament of the fall season. Both have proven themselves to be worthy of their preseason praise following their first day in their opening competition. The Gators are in the lead at the Cougar Classic after one round and Brooks is atop the individual leaderboard.

The men’s and women’s golf teams hold intriguing potential heading into the fall season. Both teams are coming off national championship appearances and returning many of the same players, .
