Florida loses heartbreaker in ITA Kickoff Championship

The clock struck 10:26 p.m. on Sunday, and the Gators men’s tennis team had finally clinched a 4-1 victory over Florida Atlantic University to claim the ITA Kickoff Weekend title and earn a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Grant Holloway is quite literally on top of the world. His time of 6.51 seconds in the 60 meters broke a seven-year-old school record, was good for the world lead and put him in the top 10 on the all-time collegiate list for the event. Holloway also holds the national lead in the 60-meter hurdles and the No. 2 marks in the long jump and 200 meters.

The men’s team will open its 2019 campaign against William & Mary at 11 a.m., while the women’s team will take on UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
A second-half barrage saved the Gators from a devastating home loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday night. No UF player had scored 20 points in a game this season heading into the matchup with the Aggies, but KeVaughn Allen and Noah Locke scored 31 and 27, respectively.
The Florida gymnastics team faced two Tigers to start the season and felled them both. It’ll be facing off against yet another feline opponent in its return to the O’Connell Center.
It took 17 games for a Florida men’s basketball player to eclipse 20 points in a contest.
If you told Florida women’s basketball coach Cam Newbauer that the Gators out-rebounded No. 7 Mississippi State and held its leading scorer, Teaira McCowan, to just two points, he probably wouldn’t have expected his team to get blown out.
