Ranking the top albums of 2016

Pretty much everyone agrees that 2016 was a terrible year in general, but in a year with a lot of downs, we had some amazing music to carry us through those tough 365 days. There were dozens of perfect albums that came out last year, but here are my personal top 10 releases of 2016.

The Atlantic celebrates book on Gainesville’s punk past

On Saturday, The Atlantic will host a book release party for “Gainesville Punk: A History of Bands & Music,” a book by Matt Walker, a Gainesville resident and communications specialist with UF Human Resource Services. The show will feature reunion sets by local punk legends Strikeforce Diablo, I Hate Myself and Army of Ponch. This event will also serve as an LP release show for Deadaires, a band based out of St. Augustine, Florida, with strong ties to Gainesville through its members, who have played in bands like Against Me! and Palatka.

Fest returns for 15th anniversary

While hardcore football fans will be out of town to watch the Gators play the University of Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville, Florida, this weekend, Gainesville will host a completely different type of entertainment.

While many may think of Psy and his infamous single “Gangnam Style,” the list of notable K-pop musicians who are making their way into the American music market is ever growing. From quirky and cute love songs to hip-hop and rap jams, K-pop offers music everyone can find enjoyable.
