Beal: Meyer not too satisfied with other linebackers

The Gators' newest commitment, Bethlehem (Pa.) linebacker Brendan Beal, shared some choice words from Coach Urban Meyer on his announcement telecast on CSTV on Thursday night.

"(Meyer) is not too satisfied with some of his other linebackers right now," Beal said.

Beal was not referring to Gators middle linebacker Brandon Spikes, who has impressed as a sophomore first-year starter this year.

While Dustin Doe and A.J. Jones have played solid, UF has almost no depth at linebacker, a point that Beal could have been referring to.

Beal said he plans to enroll early in January and said Meyer promised and guaranteed him the opportunity to play very early, which should come as no surprise given Meyer's penchant for playing the best guy regardless of seniority.

"Brandon Spikes, people have compared me to him, very similar styles of play," said Beal, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect. "We're both ballers. He says freshman year I definitely have a shot to play right next to him in the middle. If he leaves early, I'll take over the Mike spot. Right now, it sounds like I'll be playing the Will and definitely have a shot to play early."
