UF volleyball coach Mary Wise was very satisfied with the play of junior middle blocker Kelsey Bowers this weekend.
The rest of the Southeastern Conference took notice as well.
Bowers was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon, one day after tallying nine kills in Georgia and three days after notching a career-high 17 kills in Auburn.
"We're making steps towards being a really good blocking team, and Kelsey Bowers is a big part of that," Wise said in a Monday press conference. "She's got a really fast arm, and we can set that ball as fast as anybody in the country."
Bowers' defensive performance was excellent as well over the weekend. Not usually an offensive powerhouse, she easily could have won the SEC Defensive Player of the Week Honors as well. She had 11 block assists in the two matches combined.
Two wins still didn't help the Gators' standings in the national polls.
UF stayed in the No. 10 position in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll. Of the nine teams in front of UF, six have more losses and five have fewer wins.
