Today would be a great day for you to reevaluate how you think about the people around you. What if you found out today that one of your friends were gay? What if your cousin told you he or she were transgender?

Would you treat them the same if that were true?

Today is National Coming Out Day.

You may see people today wearing "Gay? Fine by me." T-shirts. You may see students symbolically "coming out" by walking through a door set up on Turlington Plaza.

Today would be a great day for all of us to realize our prejudices and discrimination are unfair, and we should eliminate them.

We are proud of the people who have the courage to come out, today or any other day. Our society assumes everyone is straight until they say something otherwise, and coming out isn't easy.

Today would be a great day to embrace our differences and show our acceptance - but it's not the only day.
