Homecoming safety

Nick Holmes

In an effort to have as safe and successful homecoming week as possible, the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council held a risk management meeting Sunday to prepare for the upcoming homecoming festivities.

IFC and PC went over regulations that Greeks must follow to adhere to university policy. For example, people must bring their own beverages to and are limited to one six pack of beer per person older than 21.

Other regulations prohibit the playing of "beer games" during functions in chapter houses.

These regulations are in place to protect Greeks from unsafe alcohol consumption.

"We recognize that homecoming week is big for organizations," said Chris Bullins, director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. "In an effort to be proactive, the organizations committed to an educational session promoting responsibility."

Monday kicks off a week in which PC and IFC Greeks pair up and host various social events in Gainesville and around Florida.

Some events are held in local bars with themes such as "I love the 90s." Others are held outside Gainesville, such as "Woodsers" that include bonfires and band. There are also trips to beach towns or big city clubs.

For example, Chi Phi fraternity and Alpha Chi Omega sorority are traveling to St. Augustine Beach Thursday for their away trip.
