Walker to transfer

UF redshirt freshman running back Chevon Walker has been granted a release from his scholarship and allowed to talk to other schools about transferring, UF sports information director Steve McClain confirmed Tuesday.

Walker, who rushed four times for 14 yards as a third-string tailback this year, has not played since a loss to Auburn on Sept. 29 and has not made the gameday dress roster since UF's win at Kentucky on Oct. 20.

UF coach Urban Meyer has said that Walker was dealing with personal issues.

Walker has not been seen at practice in recent weeks.

Markus Manson, who was signed as a running back and converted to cornerback prior to this season, seems poised to replace Walker behind Kestahn Moore and Brandon James at an injury-riddled position.

The status of redshirt freshman safety Jamar Hornsby, who also has not dressed since the Kentucky game but has been practicing, has not changed, McClain said.
