UF freshman outfielder Evan Chambers must have seen my article in the paper today complimenting fellow freshman Josh Adams for hitting a home run in Wednesday's scrimmage.
In batting practice before Friday's scrimmage, Chambers smacked four consecutive pitches for home runs over the left field wall. Sure, it was batting practice, but that doesn't stop the feat from being impressive.
During the actual scrimmage, senior Dustin Bamberg had a solo home run.
The team worked on bunting drills before each half inning, focusing on the defensive side. Runners got on base and a hitter bunted, challenging the defense to make a play. If a runner advance but the bunter was thrown out a first, each team earned a run. If the lead runner was thrown out, the defense got two runs. If the bunter got on base and the defense did not record an out, the offense got two runs.
The team also stole often during the scrimmage. Junior left fielder Avery Barnes stole second and third during one at-bat. Barnes also beat out two throws at first base, showcasing his speed. Coach Kevin O'Sullivan should be successful running with this team.
