Former California running back James Montgomery flew back to Sacremento on Sunday without a scholarship offer from UF.
Montgomery still hopes to transfer to one of three schools, UF, South Carolina or Washington State, said his father, James Sr., in a phone interview Monday morning.
Montgomery toured South Carolina and UF last week and is set to see Washington State this weekend before announcing where he will transfer.
It's very possible that Urban Meyer cannot fit Montgomery into his stable of running backs.
The Gators already received one transfer from California last season, Southern California's Emmanuel Moody, and return Mon Williams and Chris Rainey from injury. Veterans Kestahn Moore and Brandon James are familiar with Meyer's offense having been at UF for multiple seasons.
As a redshirt freshman last season, Montgomery backed up departing senior Justin Forsett and rushed 36 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.
Montgomery was reportedly listed as Cal's No. 1 running back on its spring depth chart before deciding he didn't like being at Berkeley anymore.
Montgomery was unable to be reached for comment.
