Mark Rosenberg, chancellor of Florida's Board of Governors - the State University System's highest governing body - announced Monday that he will resign from his position to return to teaching in February.
Rosenberg, who has served as the board's chancellor since November 2005, said in a news release that he wants to return to Florida International University as a faculty member.
Sheila McDevitt, the board's chairwoman, said a search for a new chancellor would begin immediately, according to the release.
Rosenberg said in the release he plans to continue to work on projects for the board, which includes creating a plan for educating troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated Rosenberg had resigned already. He will resign in February.
