As a Hispanic student, I am very disappointed that Student Government senators couldn't find it in them to pass a simple resolution supporting human rights and dignity for farm workers in Immokalee, Fla., especially since most of the workers affected are also minorities.

Although all of the Progress senators voted in favor of helping some of the most oppressed workers in the country, I'm appalled that some Unite and some Orange and Blue senators voted no on the resolution enough for it to fail.

Opponents of the resolution used straw-man arguments to excuse not taking a stand against exploitation and slavery in Immokalee. This is a setback for civil rights in Florida.
