College is rough. You’re expected to figure out exactly what you intend to do with the rest of your life in a year or two. Some people seem to have it all figured out, and you probably think to yourself, “Why can’t I be him or her?" But believe me when I say, I’ve been there. I still am there.

I feel your struggle. College is overwhelming. You are hit with so many curveballs and many new responsibilities. You may even go multiple years only to realize you’re heading in the wrong direction or you’re majoring in something that doesn’t make you happy. Sometimes staying in college an extra year or two may need to happen, and that’s OK. Just remember in the end, you need to do what you love.

You may even graduate with a degree and go into a completely unrelated career. For example, I know two engineers who opened a pizza parlor after graduation. The real world is full of uncertainty, and it’s nearly impossible to have your entire life planned out. It never goes according to plan anyway. Embrace life’s uncertainty as a new adventure.

Use your time in college to get used to taking risks, however small they may be. Join a new club, take a different class, join in on a swing-dancing lesson, etc. College is our time to discover and to pursue our passions. Don’t let that opportunity go to waste. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Get to know yours and embrace them. You will succeed as long as you play to your strengths and chase the dreams you are passionate about.

This world is full of opportunity. Don’t sweat it. Focus on living your life to the fullest and being present in the moment. Your life is a blessing. Seize the day, and focus less on the stress that comes with trying to carve your future in stone.
