Larry Lee Davis Jr. was a little late to have good manners.

The 38-year-old Gainesville resident apologized to a police officer after he almost ran him over with a car early Saturday morning, according to an arrest report.

An officer stopped Davis on Southwest First Street near Southwest First Avenue for not wearing a seatbelt. Davis told the officer his license was suspended, and police noticed pieces of marijuana on his leg, the report said.

While the officer was leaning in the car window, Davis accelerated and  knocked the officer over, who had to move away to avoid getting hit, according to the report.

Police chased after Davis in a patrol car with the sirens on, but he continued to drive and refused to pull over for a mile, the report said.

Davis got out of his car and ran away, but police caught up to him on the 1400 block of Southeast Fourth Street, police said. Police searched Davis’ car and found four baggies of cocaine on the floor.

After he was arrested, Davis apologized for almost running the officer over, the report said.

Davis is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possessing cocaine, resisting an officer without violence, fleeing from an officer and driving without a valid license.

He is held in the Alachua County Jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
