Two teenagers accused of stealing a car were arrested Monday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol followed Jaden Demar Davis, 18, of Gainesville and a 17-year-old, of Pensacola, down U.S. 441 after noticing they were driving a stolen car, according to an arrest report.

Local officers were warned about a car stolen from Lake City at about 10:40 a.m., the report said.

An FHP trooper saw the car going south on Interstate 75 about 20 minutes later.

The trooper called for backup and followed the car as it exited on U.S. 441. Troopers stopped the car near Progress Boulevard, the report said.

The 17-year-old driver and Davis got out of the car. Troopers found a clear bag containing about 23.2 grams of synthetic drugs in the 17-year-old’s right front pocket, the report said.

Davis told the troopers he knew the car was stolen when the teenager picked him up. The car was returned to its owner, the report said.

The 17-year-old, who has never had a license, was charged with driving without a license, grand theft auto and possessing more than 10 grams of synthetic drugs and drug paraphernalia, the report said. He was taken to the Alachua County Juvenile Detention Center and wasn’t named in the report because he’s a juvenile.

Davis was charged with grand theft auto and is being held in the Alachua County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond, according to jail records.
