Police arrested a Gainesville man Saturday who is accused of stabbing a man who said something about his hat.
A warrant for Dominic Rocco LaPastina’s, 34, arrest was issued Friday, according to court records.
At about 12:45 a.m. Friday, the victim and a witness were having drinks at Lillian’s Music Store, 112 SE First St., when the victim commented on LaPastina’s hat, according to a Gainesville Police sworn complaint report.
The victim and LaPastina started arguing, the report said. The witness saw LaPastina repeatedly punch the victim in the back.
The bar’s video footage showed LaPastina take something out of his coat pocket and striking the victim in the back, the report said.
The witness broke up the fight, the report said. A bartender told police that the man didn’t hit LaPastina back.
The man was unaware he was stabbed until he was put inside a car, the report said. There was a large amount of blood on the car seat, floor and door.
He was taken to the trauma intensive care unit at UF Health Shands Hospital because of the blood loss, the report said. He had a puncture wound in his lower back and scratches on his face and back.
LaPastina was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, the report said.
He remained in the Alachua County Jail on Sunday in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
