UF student killed in Wednesday night hit and run near campus

The suspect, who was possibly driving a BMW sedan, is also unknown as of Friday afternoon

Gainesville police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old UF student killed in a hit and run Wednesday night.

Margaret A. Paxton was hit just before 11 p.m. while walking near 2000 W. University Ave., the intersection between Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and Emerson Alumni Hall, according to a UF alert. 

The suspect, who was possibly driving a BMW sedan, is unknown as of Friday afternoon, according to the Gainesville Police Department. The car was last seen northbound on Northwest 20th Drive. 

Paxton, who went by Maggie, died at the scene of the crash, according to GPD. She was a natural resources and conservation junior, UF spokesperson Steve Orlando said. 

A GoFundMe was created Friday to help her family cover memorial expenses
