Man who stole mayor's wallet found in her neighborhood, according to police

A Gainesville man who stole Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan’s wallet from City Hall years ago was arrested again Tuesday morning when a witness noticed him trying to get into vehicles in her neighborhood.

The witness watched as Dashard Clark, 22, tested the door handle on her car and called police when she noticed Clark moving on to other cars on Northwest 11th Street, said Cpl. Tscharna Senn, Gainesville Police Department spokeswoman.

Officer Jamie Hope and K-9 Redd  found Clark hiding behind a wall, Senn said. Clark was found with different electronic devices, but GPD has not identified the owners, Senn said.

According to court documents, Clark has been charged similarly in more than 15 separate cases since 2005.
