The search is on.
The committee assigned the task to find UF's Next Top Dean is holdng meetings this week to open up discussion with students, faculty and staff interested in the fate of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The judge of this competition, UF Provost Janie Fouke, won't even have to think about making a decision until February, when she will be presented with a final list of applicants.
The only problem? So far, there aren't any applicants.
We know how to change that.
Wouldn't this be more fun if it were more like a reality game show? You know, potential deans participating in character-building games that would show off their skills at the same time, such as balancing the college's budget, eliminating wasteful aspects of departments and hosting fundraisers.
The candidates would even live together in a giant mansion 24/7.
The best part? Students would get to watch all the drama unfold, "Big Brother"-style, and vote out candidates they aren't so fond of through a Web site or text messages.
It could be called "CLAS Clash," and the winner could be announced at a basketball game in the spring.
OK, it's just a pipe dream, but we bet something like that would garner more interest than that of the 15 or so students who showed up at Wednesday's meeting.
