City discussion on contentious towing rate increase delayed

The base rate to tow an illegally parked car is $76, and Superior Towing is asking the city to raise it to $100. Owner Mike Weber said raising the cost is necessary to keep up with the cost of business. Those opposed to the measure say the company hasn’t produced any proof the extra costs are essential.

Young Life program starts at UF

UF and Santa Fe College students are invited on a photo scavenger hunt from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday starting at the Vineyard of Gainesville and ending at Thornebrook Village as a recruiting event for Young Life College, a non-denominational Christian program that helps students develop their faith.

Cell reception on campus will improve

UF recently installed a system of more than 300 antennas in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium that works to triangulate cellphone signals and pinpoint users’ calls, said John Madey, manager of telecommunications and network infrastructure for UF Information Technology.
